What’s the difference between Wink and Kantar?
Both run continuous surveys that track your brand against competitors and report in a dashboard. Kantar’s tracker, BrandDynamics, collects data daily, forecasts three months ahead and is sold as a self-serve subscription with consultancy on top. Wink builds and runs a monthly tracker for one category in one country at a published price. What they have in common:
- Competitor benchmarking
- Both report your brand next to the competitors in your category.
- Survey panels with quality checks
- Kantar samples from its Profiles Audience Network with bot and fraud detection. Wink screens out bad responses so they never count.
- South Africa, the US, the UK and Australia
- BrandDynamics lists all four among its 38 markets. Wink tracks in the same four.
How does pricing compare?
Kantar doesn’t publish a price for BrandDynamics: the page says “Contact us for pricing” (checked 18 October 2026). Its Marketplace pricing page offers pay-as-you-go and commit plans, both through sales. Kantar’s free BrandSnapshot gives a brand equity snapshot, which is a different job from tracking.
Wink publishes one monthly price per tracker, covering the baseline, monthly waves, five competitors, the portal and reports, on the pricing page.
Do you run the tracker yourself or does someone run it for you?
With BrandDynamics your team uses the platform; Kantar describes it as “a self-serve, subscription-based solution with flexible consultancy options”. Its supported self-serve level includes 8 hours of expert consultancy a quarter, and Kantar sells presentations, workshops and ad-hoc analysis on top.
Wink sets the tracker up and runs it. It builds the questionnaire and translations, agrees quotas and weighting, and pilots it; your part is a kickoff call, a competitor list and sign-off on the category definition. Every number comes with its margin of error, and Wink says when a change is too early to call.
Is Wink an alternative to Kantar in South Africa?
Yes, for a brand that wants a fixed-price monthly tracker. Kantar has offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and lists South Africa as a BrandDynamics market, so it is an option for brands that want daily data and consultancy.
Wink surveys South African category buyers with quotas by age, gender and province, in English and other South African languages, with prices in rand.
