What’s the difference between Wink and SurveyMonkey?
Both can measure brand awareness, consideration and preference against competitors over repeated waves. SurveyMonkey is a survey platform: you build the tracker from its templates, buy responses from its Audience panel, and decide how often to run it. Wink builds and runs one monthly tracker for one category in one country, at a published price. What they have in common:
- Unaided, then aided awareness
- SurveyMonkey's templates advise opening with unaided awareness "before any names appear". Wink's survey asks unprompted awareness first, then aided.
- Response quality checks
- SurveyMonkey filters out gibberish and rushed answers and uses fraud detection on its panel. In Wink, bad responses never count.
- South Africa, the US, the UK and Australia
- All four are on SurveyMonkey's Audience country list, and Wink tracks in all four.
How does pricing compare?
SurveyMonkey’s cost is a plan plus panel responses. Team plans start at $30 a user a month, for at least three users billed annually, on its US pricing page (archived 8 October 2026). Audience responses are “an add-on cost to your SurveyMonkey plan”, in the words of its help centre, and its Audience panel page starts them at $1 a response (checked 18 October 2026). The help centre says the price depends on survey length, targeting, balancing and how many people qualify. A narrow category costs more per response than a general one.
Wink publishes one monthly price per tracker, covering the baseline, monthly waves, up to five competitors, the portal and reports, on the pricing page.
Who builds and runs the tracker?
With SurveyMonkey your team does. Its brand tracking page offers templates it calls expert-built and lets you choose weekly to twice-yearly waves, and its market research services will design and run competitive tracking studies for a price set through sales. SurveyMonkey launched a Brand Tracker in 2021; on 18 October 2026 its market research pages listed templates, the Audience panel and services instead.
With Wink, Wink does. It builds the questionnaire and translations, agrees quotas and weighting, and pilots it. Every month it adds 200 new category buyers, reports a three-month rolling average with the margin of error on every number, and says when a change is too early to call.
Is Wink an alternative to SurveyMonkey in South Africa?
Yes. SurveyMonkey’s Audience panel lists South Africa, with the survey in English, and you set the screening and quotas yourself. Wink’s South African tracker comes with quotas by age, gender and province, the survey in English and other South African languages, and prices in rand.
